Significance of the Name

My Blog’s name is a tribute to my Dad & my Husband. My Dad because he used to sing the song to me, "How 'd You Like to Swing on a Star?" It's about reaching for your dreams, you can stay where you are & be safe OR YOU CAN SWING ON STAR. Stars also refer to a difficult night just after my husband died. I was talking to him (I often do.) & said how I missed his "I Love You's". That night he gave me a dream... a gorgeous, bright blue night sky filled with thousands of stars, in the middle the stars formed an "I LOVE YOU"....such a gift on so many levels.

So "follow your own path, & don't worry about the darkness, for that is when the stars shine brightest”

Thoughts on Doing an Art Commission

I finished this commission not too long ago.
I don't know how you may feel about doing this type of work,
but it intimidates the devil out of me.  Wish I weren't so darn insecure, but I believe we all are always dealing with that one. I imagine that is why we enjoy our blogging as I think about it...we give each other the reassurances we sometimes need, don't we?

So back to commissions..Mind you, I had a very good mural business for 5 years, sometimes doing very large ones in very beautiful homes, but this for some reason intimidates me. I tell myself, for Pete's Sake Shari you get to sit at home in your comfy chair with music or TV on to do this. You don't have to hang of ladders/scaffolding all day.

I stress about doing one of these and this was more so
because I was so busy at the time.

When someone sees a piece you've done previously and comes to you with their wedding or shower gift expectations and places them in your hands....I take it VERY seriously.

A friend came to me with her request, a few pictures and it was up to me to bring it all together on an 18" bulb for display on one of those table hooks in some one's home. She wanted a very special, unique gift to give. It is the second one I've done for her. It's very intimidating because you just want the person to be so happy with the outcome that it  sometimes inhibits my creativity at various stages.
I wonder if this happens with you and how you deal with it?
I usually won't let myself do another art piece until this one is complete.

Then suddenly inspiration strikes and I'm off, although it's not unusual for me to remove large areas and start again if I'm not happy with it!

I use the flowers from the bridal bouquet on the bottom of the piece and have a representation of the groom and bride emerging from them. The dress resembles the bride's along with their hair color. This one includes hydrangeas with swarovski crystals in the centers.

First names and date on the reverse in some sort of romantic font.
The top has glitter, although the picture does not portray it properly.

The final touch, my signature with a sigh of relief that it is finally done.

I did a gift box and then presented it. She seemed very pleased with the outcome and gave me more than I asked for it, which was a lovely boost to my morale I must say. I learn a little something each time I do one of these. Which is what we should always be doing isn't it? Please share with me how you handle these artful stresses. It might be nice for us to share how we deal with artful demands to help each other.

I have 2 more I will be showing at some point, one was a memorial for some one's pet that had died....oh my, wait till I tell you how perplexed I was about how to represent that one!!

Hope you all had a very PINK Valentines Day!

Shari
